To help remedy this, we are implementing a new submission deadline.
Read below.

Producer Alert: New Program Submission
Deadline in the New Year
Over the past few months, we have asked for your cooperation in dealing with program submission deadline changes revolving around holidays and station closure. Instead of accepting programs on Thursdays, we moved the deadline to Wednesdays during these periods. We appreciate your understanding and doing all that you could to make the deadline despite any inconvenience it may have caused you.
In an effort to avoid making these requests in the future, we have made the decision to permanently change the program submission deadline to WEDNESDAYS at 5PM.
The deadline change will take place in January 2012. We will allow a period of transition throughout the months of January and February.
During this time, we will still accept programs by the original Thursday deadline, unless otherwise specified.
The permanent change will begin, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 29TH. The program week will remain Monday thru Sunday.
Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation!

Hometown Video Festival
The Alliance for Community Media (ACM) has issued its call for entries for the Hometown Media Awards. Previously named the Hometown Video Awards, the name change to Hometown Media Awards reflects the wider array of media being used by Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels.
The Hometown Media Awards honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on PEG access cable television channels. Awards are presented to creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats, and move viewers to experience television in a different way.
The Hometown Media Awards is local cable’s largest video awards competition. Winners of the Hometown Media Awards will be recognized during the Alliance for Community Media 2012 Conference & Exhibition in Chicago. July 31-August 2, 2012.
The Peoples Channel and Durham Community Media are members of the ACM and would like to encourage our producers to submit their programs which will be covered by membership. TPC/DCM18 will enter them under our Organizational Membership with the ACM, which will give you a discount on the entrance fee. We do not have the resources to pay for the entrance fee, but we are happy to use our membership so that you can receive the member discount.
Fees are as follows:
If uploaded online $50 Members/$75 Non-Members
If mailing DVD ($20 processing fee) $70 Members/$95 Non-Members

TPC/DCM18 Welcomes a New Team Member!
The organization is very happy to welcome Sandy Onstad, the new Director of Administrative and Member Services. The position is based in the Chapel Hill office and supports the administrative needs of the organization, as well as management of member information and organizational data. We are very excited to bring her on board and she comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience that we feel will benefit the community greatly. Please say hello next time you stop on by or drop her an email at sandy@thepeopleschannel.org and make her feel welcome!
Sandy is originally from Jacksonville Florida and spent 13 years in New York City working at MTV Networks before moving to Chapel Hill in 2011. While she still loves the energy and vibe around the entertainment industry, after a lot of soul searching, she decided that it was time for a change of pace and more meaningful work. She's always had a curiosity about Chapel Hill since learning about it from a college adviser back in the early 90s, and figured it was time to explore why.
While out for a walk early one evening shortly after moving to Chapel Hill, Sandy saw The Peoples Channel sitting atop a hill and wandered over to peep in the window. She felt a curious tug and wondered if she'd found the very thing she was looking for. Soon after, she signed on as a volunteer, and on the very first day felt at home. When a staff position became available she tossed her hat in the ring, and is now delighted to be part of the team, hoping to offer many of the skills and perhaps some of the wisdom gleaned from the other (commercial) side of the industry.
Welcome Sandy! We look forward to working with you!
