Attention Producers and Program Sponsors:
Due to an expansion of the amount of programming that we’re receiving, we thought we’d take a moment and address some requirements for submission of content to The Peoples Channel and Durham Community Media.
The below information comes from our recently updated Policies and Procedures. To read the document in its entirety, you can find it HERE.
–– Submission Deadline ––
Programs should be turned in Thursday by 5pm for airtime the following week starting Monday. However due to the uncertainty of numbers of programs submitted per week and limited weekly programming slots, there is no guarantee that programs will enter rotation the following week, except for series programs.
In the past, we’ve been pretty flexible with the deadline of submissions. We must now adhere to the policy stated above. Any program received AFTER the deadline will be scheduled for the next programming week (two weeks after late submission).
–– Submission location ––
Programs must be submitted to the station on which they will be aired. A drop box is available for submissions made outside of regular business hours.
If you would like your show to air in Durham, please drop off the DVD at DCM. In Chapel Hill/Carrboro, drop off in Chapel Hill. Want to air in both communities? Drop off at both locations.
–– Producer Contact Information in Program ––
Should contain, as the last image, the following text held on screen for a minimum of 15 seconds: television program producer identification and contact information.
This contact information can be an email address, physical mailing address (excluding PO Boxes), phone number, or all of these. If there is no contact information provided, the program will not air. This also applies to members who sponsor non-local programs. We can add your information for $5 per episode.
–– Length Requirements ––
Programs must not exceed 28:30 or 58:30 minutes. If content exceeds this limit, programs will be cut off at the front end of the program to ensure that contact information is displayed at the end of the program. If more than three programs within a three-month period are submitted beyond the maximum length, producers will be charged $5 per episode or not scheduled.
These length requirements are in place to allow broadcast time for 1) Local business underwriting opportunities to help fund TPC/DCM and 2) Our Community Bulletin Board with announcements of local events and station updates.
–– Labeling Requirements ––
Labels with the show title, length of program, air date and time, and the television program producer/submitter affixed to the tape and the tape case or clearly displayed on CD, DVD, or embedded in metadata of a file. DVDs must have a sleeve/case or it will not be accepted.
All of this information helps us ensure that the content you submit airs when you’ve indicated. It is especially helpful when producers submit multiple programs at once. Having the producer contact information (preferably a phone number) readily available makes resolving any issue with the program much smoother.
––––––
These listed topics are the most common issues we run into when processing the content we receive. It is our first priority to broadcast the programs that our community creates. To avoid any confusion or mix up on our end, we ask our members to adhere to our policies.
Please review the Policies and Procedures found HERE and at both Durham and Chapel Hill locations.
